We have been at the park a couple of times during the winter and the fountain has been working. The old fountain was broken, but they have replaced it.

I don't mind the name tag idea, since I had no idea who was there for the meetup last time. Does anyone know if we need to bring water for the pups? Is it safe to assume the fountain is off until the weather warms up?

What does everyone think about name tags? That way we know who is there for the meetup, and who just happened to be at the park. Post your thoughts!

Hi Robbie! I'm glad you can make it to this meetup! We don't have food or anything at the meetup since its at an off leash dog park. You can bring dog treats for your houndy!

Do i need to bring anything? Food? Drink? I will be happy to. Or is it just bring whatever you want for food for the humans?

    •  My only wish was that everyone was in a certain place inside the "large" dog park. There were all kinds of dogs and their owners there and it was impossible to know who owned a basset or who didn't. Keep in mind that that complaint only stems from us wanting to talk to basset owners because we're planning on getting one this summer. If we had a basset already, I'm sure our main focus would have been on the dogs. Either way, we stayed about a half hour and LOVED watching the bassets play and run around and we do look forward to the next meet-up.
    •  Its great to see all the hounds together; its a great group of people.

Meeting other basset lovers was fun. I would love to do it again.

I'm really happy to be part of this group. It's so much fun to see all the hounds and the various shapes, sizes, and colors. It's great to be able to talk to other hound owners about our breed's unique characteristics!
    •  We had a great time as usual! Our new basset, Murphy, had an excellent time! The weather was great as well!

Being a dog behaviorist, I feel dog parks can be dangerous for our bassets for a number of reasons. One being, out of control agressive dogs with ignorant owners. We had a 14 week old pup (Tucker) and did not want to expose it to dogs that did not have good social skills. The bassets excluded, there were many different breeds and in my observation most of these dogs were in a highly excitable state. In the short time we were there there was a couple dog fights. We also do not know the health background on these dogs. So we can potentially put our dogs in a unhealthy situation. Maybe we can find a place we can meet with only our dogs. I just think dog parks are a bad idea. Sorry, but thats just my opinion.

I'm so glad these meetups are continuing. The more we go to, the more we recognize people and hounds and feel more comfortable visiting with one another.
